Angeer, the undiscovered model

This is Angeer Amol, a Sudanese native with a face as striking, if not more striking and commanding, than that of famed Sudanese model, Alek Wek.

I think the fashion world is ready for Angeer Amol, another statuesque African supermodel with the most exquistely pouty lips one has ever seen. Not to mention her bambi eyes and silky, deep blue shade of black  skin. And she is not signed to an agency. She is a free agent .

Do you dare to be the one to sign Angeer? Genius will be your middle name and Karl Lagerfeld will never forget your genius.

Dashiki Lady

diaspora dashiki dress
Photo Cred :Aschobi Designs

West African Ready to Wear line, Aschobi designs brought it again. Yes, I was not going to post this because I don't own all the colors just yet. Comes in blue & tan . Just the sky blue. But it's Dashiki time ! I know it's fall and it's cold but you can always get very creative and err...boho......

That means matching this lovely Dashiki dress with a black long or short sleeve tee. Let's not forget a blazer and it's recession friendly. JC Penney's knows that as well, click away.

I really love the criss cross spaghetti strap of this dress as well as revealing cut on the posterior of the gown. I love DASHIKI!

For inquiries contact Aschobi at info@aschobi.com.

ARISE Model of the Year

ARISE fashion week drew to a dramatic close today with Nigeria taking 4 of the 9 awards at ARISE Fashion week. Nigerian native Oluchi Onweagba was named Model of The Year. And I am not surprised. Oluchi is a beautiful girl and Supermodel. You might know her from her seductive pounce down the Victoria Secret runway. Gorgeous woman indeed.

Tiffany Amber was awarded Designer of the Year, while Ituen Basi took home the Award for Innovation. Eyola was awarded the Most Promising Designer. But wait!!!!I've got a knuckle buster!!!!

R. Kelly also performed at the event. I am a bit shocked Jewel by Lisa didn't take home any awards, her designs are FIERCE.

Enjoy the pics of the model of the year, Oluchi Onweagba Orlandi. gorgeous woman. congrats. Above, I've included an awesome pic of Oluchi wearing an Ankara dress designed by Jewel By Lisa....just breathless:)

African Summer

I totally support young designers who present how far the African design/ cloths can go. Always a sucker for color and boldness. I love the work we are slated to view on June 20th. The designs I've selected include work by Maama Baryeh,Afro-chique to name a few.

Samantha Cole London

Samantha Cole is another Nigerian designer making major waves on the fashion scene. Her designs are reminiscent of Elizabethan era fashion. Puffed sleeves, and mainly done in blacks and whites. I love her designs due to their edgy, fierce and dark flair. Especially loving the black lace blouse. The belt is also a Samantha Cole design. It doesn't hurt she is Nigerian. Do enjoy.

Ankara Realized...

Jewel by Lisa is quickly becoming the go-to fashion house out of Nigeria. Founded and owned by Lisa Folawuyo, Jewel by Lisa plays with Ankara like we've never seen before. Just over three years old, Jewel by Lisa has developed a major cult following and I am one of those followers.

I simply adore the girl elegance associated with this line. The very first line Cruise Collection made it's debut in 2007. It dabbled in girl elegance which contained lots of dresses, strapless dresses, a line of bathing suits, and even cushion covers!!! A concept, I'm sure, pleased all Jewel by Lisa followers.

In 2008, JBL released it's Spring Summer '08 line which contained maxi tops made out of Ankara, but the best seller, has to be the the off the shoulder dress, made of silk and Ankara. The '08 line presented the fashion world with an embroidered Chinese style , short sleeved jacket also made out of Ankara. The '08 JBL also offers a lovely knee length dress made of silk ,with the neck bejewelled with Ankara. I love the marriage between silk and Ankara, and Lisa Folawuyo exemplifies this in the best way possible.

Yes, JBL has made a name for itself utilizing Ankara like we've never seen before and I am pleased. Pleased because in Africa, Ankara has been the step sister to wool, cashmere, silk. Finally, Ankara has been utilized as not only a quality fabric , but one of the easiest to care for and the most fashionable. It is 100% cotton, the quickest to dry and the trendiest material in Africa at the moment.

Jewel by Lisa has shown at ARISE Africa , as well as This Day Africa Rising Music& Fashion Event London '08.
