"I've just retired from the Fantasy part"

Ah...Lauryn, like the rest of the world I've just been sitting silently watching the demise of the mega star we know today as Lauryn Hill. What happened boo?

10 years ago, Lauryn was at the top of her game, until a lawsuit was brought up her against by writers on "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". Yes, the record that cemented her place as a solo artist/Superstar. I distinctly remember a legendary performance she gave at an MTV awards with her very own orchestra and band. It was electric, inspiring...Lauryn should be credited for ushering Neo-Soul back onto the music scene.

Word is she wanted to take all the credit for all the writing on that album , when allegedly she did not do all the writing.

The songwriters took her to court and won. What happened next none of us would've ever thought would happen. Lauryn disappeared from the public eye and went mental.

In a 2000 Essence interview, Hill stated " People need to understand that the Lauryn Hill they were exposed to in the beginning was all that was allowed in the arena at that time...I had to step away when I realized that for the sake of the machine, I was being way too compromised. I felt uncomfortable about having to smile in someone's face when I really didn't like them or even know them well enough to like them "

A year later, in 2001, she later told a crowd of eager MTV Unplugged Lauryn Hill Fans, " Fantasy is what people want, but reality is what they need. I've retired from the fantasy part". It does not help matters when you consider that although she claims to be married to Rohan Marley, she is in fact not married to him. Mr. Rohan Marley never divorced his first wife, Geraldine Khawly. But he does acknowledge a "spiritual "marriage he shares with Lauryn .
In 2008, Lauryn gave birth to her sixth child with Rohan and almost a year later, the child was still nameless, no name had been given to the child as late as August of 2008.


This is what greed can do to a person. This why Martha Stewart ended up in Federal prison to save her multimillion dollar empire from losing $5,000.

Greed.

Regardless of the blow Lauryn suffered as a result of the hoopla , she tried to make a come back with MTV unplugged and that in itself was very painful to watch . This was not the Lauryn we knew rocking it so hard on the MTV stage, we thought this was a second coming of Bob Marley.

However, First Lady Michelle Obama recently informed BBC she frequently listens to Lauryn Hill. We gather it must be " The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" ...It was a chart topper that sold over 19 million copies and received 5 Grammy Awards.

Lauryn....you were born star. Remember that.
